About me
I’m Chang Song Jie, born in Kuantan, Malaysia. My journey into violin making began in 2018 under the guidance of Maestro Tan Chin Seng while I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Music, majoring in cello at ASWARA. Graduating in 2020, I discovered my passion for violin making and devoted myself to mastering the craft with Maestro Tan’s mentorship.
In May 2022, I showcased my violin ‘Rendang’ at the International Violin-making Competition in Pisogne, Italy. The following year, my meticulously crafted viola ‘Laksa’ earned me the First Prize in the same competition organized by ANLAI, making me the first Malaysian female luthier to triumph in an international violin-making competition. This achievement signifies a milestone in my pursuit of mastering the art of violin making.
